Planted as a sole species or with other accompanying species, poplar can effectively serve as a buffer strip. It does so in linearly developing formations (single- or multi-stemmed, depending on farm needs and available land area), planted near streams and on the edge of cultivated land, so as to intercept runoff from cultivated land before it enters main water bodies.<\/p>
